From the Ground UP!

Starting a new construction project is never easy, but starting one in the middle of a global
pandemic when income is slow and lockdowns make it nearly impossible for your carpenters to
come to work; is nearly impossible!

First we hired a local carpenter, he came by to see the property
one evening and bolted 4 pieces of wood to the foundation. He
seemed excited about the project once we sat down and
explained what we'd like to do, However, after a week of
rescheduling turned into two months and the four pieces of
wood still hadn't turned into a structure.

Finally, a reliable carpenter came through and we were
able to see walls go up! It was exciting to see that our outdoor
luxury half bath finally take form.

We laugh when we talk about the first home for Hibiscus House
being more like Hibiscus "efficiency" because of its cozy
quarters, so much so that it wasn't practical to have the.
restroom indoors. Nonetheless, positioning the restroom off the
back patio and joined to our storeroom seemed like the perfect
location. We even found a brilliant piece of history around the
island that helped us bring the outside in. Expanding the little
space well beyond its four walls!

On a scroll near the mangroves one of our partners found
stacks of old building material that he thought would be cool
to repurpose in the store. In the stacks were perfectly smooth
glass sliding doors. They needed a little cleaning up but we
came up with the cool idea to use one of them to create a
"peek-a-boo" wall in the restroom and give the blah look of
the small restroom an elevated look!

I don't know if it truly
matter how you start, it just
matters that you do! The
beginning matters, but
what matters even more
Are the small adventures
and giant lessons in
between. And the beautiful
finish products and sense
of accompaniment you feel
in the end.

This little room is an essential part of our process to making
Hibiscus House a success. It showed our commitment to not
just having a business, but showed that we were committed
to doing whatever was necessary to making that business a
success.

Its the first piece of Hibiscus House to be built from the
ground up and I can't wait to walk you through!
